2007-01-16 15:36:20   Bill, can you fill us in on the story behind the Ski Bare lady, if you have the details? —TonyZuccarino

2007-01-16 16:01:45   She was Betty Hubberty and somehow related to the marketing Dept. Phil Davis would be the best one to ask as he was more a part of that era than I was. —BillDiehl

2007-01-18 08:38:42   Betty being the girlfriend of Dave McTaggart the Mkt Dir at MT REba Ski area- This photo was a spur of the moment thing, while the two of them were out skiing one day, and it turned into a Mktg tool. It was on the brochure that next season, as well as a poster, which is still available in town at Lance's shop. Our museum can make a copy of the brochure if anyone is interested. —SusiLewis

2007-01-18 19:39:19   From left to right. Rick Carney, Ski School Director. Ron Funk, The Last of the Ski Bums. Don Brooks, Racing Coach. Betty McTaggart, Wife of BVDC GM and founder of Greenpeace. Mike Kerton, jumping off cornice mid '70s (now building 5 million dollar homes at Northstar) —PhilDavis

2007-01-18 23:02:02   Well there ya go uncle Phil, I did not know that about Dave McTaggart. Did he also run the Mega Bear thing at Tamarack? —BillDiehl

2007-01-19 10:07:42   Yea Big, McTaggart and Don Brooks bought, or somehow tied up Tamarack, and they opened a nightclub called "The Garage" in the old garage out back. then in the winter of 69, ther was a gas explosion in one of the buildings there and someone lost a foot as a result. He filed a negligence against EPG, but lost it. He moved to Aspen to promote the Wildcat Real Estate development, and that was the last time I saw him, when I had dinner with him and Betty in Aspen. —PhilDavis

2007-01-19 16:23:44   somehow I get the impression that BV was a bit more footloose and wild than today's BV. —TonyZuccarino

2007-01-20 00:34:07   Well, we were younger in those days. I'm sure the young internationals that inhabit this place these days, will have some fantastic stories to tell, when they get old enough to appreciate the things they are doing today. —PhilDavis

2007-01-20 10:26:54   yeah, but the internationals are transients, come and go, you guys were the mainstays creating the personality of the place. —TonyZuccarino

2007-01-24 12:25:40   I added another one. Though tehnically not a poster, it shows BV with just three lifts. Pre-Koala chair. —BillDiehl

2007-01-24 14:50:14   Bill, fascinating. Thanks for the poster... enjoyed the look back. What year roughly was this? —TonyZuccarino

2007-01-25 08:04:08   That was the first winter 67/68 —PhilDavis

2007-01-25 11:44:06   Have recently had that Trail Map c. 1967 reprinted in poster size, and is available at the Museum for a $20 donation. That was drawn by Bob Shedd, who did most of the early signs and maps, as well as organize and structure the Ski Patrol. His family has donated a ton of stuff to us at EPHA and museum- much more to display! —SusiLewis

2007-01-25 11:49:05   Another one of Phil on West Ridge '67-'68 - was this one in Time mag Phil? —BillDiehl

2007-01-25 19:59:06   Bill, Photo taken by the late Jeff Puchinelli. It was in Time when they ran an article about Club Med building their first resort in North America, here at Bear Valley. Dave McTaggart sold them on the idea, and had grand plans for ski lifts from Corral Gulch to Lake Alpine. He promised them the land on the shores of Lake Alpine that his wife's family owned by the dam. Only problem was, he forgot to get Betty's parent's approval of the plan. —PhilDavis

2007-01-25 22:59:36   neat pic... thanks Bill. Phil, I read Eric J's book on BV, but I had not understood that BV was Club Med's first NA resort! —TonyZuccarino

2007-02-01 19:03:59   Great to see the old Ski Bare poster. What's the name of the shop where it can still be bought? TIA. —ScottBellows

2007-02-01 19:56:25   Last I heard, Lance at BV SPort Shop in the village still had some. Ski Bare posters that is. I have a vintage copy in the museum...but it is the only one, and will keep in archives. —SusiLewis

2007-03-29 16:18:06   Ski Bear- Betty Hubberty - Bear Valley Sport Shop (209)753-2844. There are lots of stories but as many as there may be, this isn't the 70's anymore.... —KiraKrayk

2007-03-31 19:21:11   Yeah, we have lots of stories about the 70's (60's, 80's, and 90's too) and we like to tell the ones that are fun and hope that no one remembers the embarassing ones about us. Why I remember when that cute little Kira was born and how proud her Papa was........Love - Uncle Biggie. —BillDiehl

2007-04-01 09:36:21   Hey Unc Biggie! how goes it? You DO miss us up here, doncha? BTW...the Trail Map we got reproduced, is the 1968 one..more detailed than the one on this page. It came out gorgeous, on heavy stock. Currently 'out' of them, but more are on the way. —SusiLewis
