If you've got a bunch of tree trimmings, or other flammable yard debris that could be a problem during the next fire season, you can apply at the Sheriff's office for a Permit to Burn. It's free and takes less than 5 minutes. You need to call 916-445-0745 to see if the day you want to burn is allowed by the Great Basin Fire District.
The permit is good for 2 years and spells out the basic regulations and safety tips to a safe and legal burn.
If soaking the wood in a cup or two of gasoline isn't good enough to get the wood burning, then throw in a bunch of dead pine branches with brown needles on them. That will create a lot of heat and get anything reasonably to burn.
If the fire gets out of control: call 753-2232 ... the fire department.
