The hike to Deer Creek is a lovely day hike that the whole family can enjoy. It starts at the Hermit Valley Trailhead and parking. The trail follows the the Moke River down about two miles before it intersects with Deer Creek. If one hikes up-canyon, up Deer Creek there is a wonderful cascade of water running through the creek carved canyon. Huge boulders along the banks of the creek and canyon are evidence of the glacial action that carved this area millions of years ago.

2008-06-04 09:21:13 Tony, I was wanted to arrange the photos in either one or two columns with room for text next to each photo. I can view how it's been done on other pages but Im such a klutz, it takes a long time —BobRynd
2008-06-04 13:03:09 yeah, I know it's tough... that's why I started this other pikiwiki.com project. These wikis are the ones that are klutzy, not you and I. I will work on it later today... I know what you want. —TonyZuccarino
2008-06-04 13:03:28 also please put a link to a google map on the page —TonyZuccarino
2008-06-11 17:53:35 Bob... your Deer Ck photos are great. Thanks for the reminder of how gorgeous it is this time year. Two yrs in a row a hundred yrs ago, I got to do a Mok river hike with the Distr Rgr, and my Dad.... from Hermit to Salt Sprgs.... and Deer Ck was always running high even in late July. Those trips were huge in my memories and huge for why I do what I do now. I wouldn't attempt that trip now, without those two guys who knew every rock/crevice/spring/bluff etc etc. What an honor and privilege it was. I fall upon those laurels again and again. —SusiLewis
2008-09-22 16:51:06 I hiked a ways down Moke River this past Sunday. Again, it is beautiful down this river and canyon. There isn't much water flowing until past Deer Creek, but this condition creates some absolutely beautiful emerald colored pools and yes I did dive in(what, no swim suit?). I hiked about a mile past Monte Wolfe Upper Cabin site until the trail really gets hard to navigate(what trail?). Susi, may I draw on your experiences with Dad and uncle? How much farther is the Monte Wolfe lower cabin site? Is the cabin still there? This is why I wish I had attended the talk your uncle gave last month. —BobRynd
2008-09-25 17:43:10 I wish there was a way to easily post GPS coordinates (Dan are you listening?! lol) ... I am unsure of how to find many of these trailheads people refer to. —TonyZuccarino
2008-09-28 11:30:10 thanks for the topomap... a bit hard to read though... is it possible to post a higher res version.. I have't checked whether this wiki software scales down the stored image size, so you may have uploaded a higher res, but the software scales down and stores something smaller. —TonyZuccarino
2008-09-28 13:02:20 Tony, I'll try. The software provided with the Magellan GPS isn't very good. I had an issue with "save as". I wanted to save as a picture file or pdf. The results were less than I wanted. Do you have any suggestions? —BobRynd
2009-05-12 09:36:51 Last Spring I did the Deer Creek hike under the recommendation of Trailmeister Susan. This is a great spring hike. Does anyone have any recommendations for some day hikes(maybe an overnight) to see some nice spring waterfalls and/or cascades? —BobRynd
2009-05-13 06:47:20 Don't have my hiking 'brain' in gear yet, but one place comes to mind- it may be more than a day hike, but early in the season like this, it could be awesome: from Salts Sprgs res, hike up the Moke to Blue Hole- it is exquisite any time, but probably boiling right now. —SusiLewis
