After a soul-crushing, gut-wrenching period of computerlessness.... Again, this time the prize will be one of my framed photos instead of food. Leave your guess here at the bottom of the page. You'll need to log in with your user name, so sign up! Note: I can always check "Recent Changes" to see if you erased somebody's answer to put your's first. Dan PS: We've kinda lost track of the months, eh? ||Thumbnail(MuckyPondHole.jpg, left, 320)||||What's that peak's number? Hint: The mucky pond hole is on the map. If you've hiked this trail, you know this wonderful little spot. Almost looks like a bit of the Dardanelles way in the background? A final note: This was taken in September, and the marsh was still so lush! Also, this is the "backside" of what, from a major nearby reservoir, would be a prominent landmark peak.|| ||Thumbnail(Marchpeak.jpg, left, 320)||||Does this jog your memory?|| New Post: ||Thumbnail(5peaks.jpg, 320)||June Contest: Can you name the 5 peaks in this photo? Bonus points for where the photo was taken. Hint: I took this photo while hiking/skiing near Ebbetts Pass a few weeks ago. This Carson-Iceberg area watershed drains into Spicer Lake and eventually into the Stanislaus. (gps coord preferred :) --["TonyZuccarino"] ------ 2008-03-24 20:52:23 nbsp Tony: We've already gone that route. --["DanAhlborn"] ------ 2008-03-25 14:09:48 nbsp Tony, I got a GPS for Christmas. Though I will still use a topomap, I will tote my GPS along this spring and summer to get waypoints. --["BobRynd"] ------ 2008-03-25 14:13:31 nbsp Thanks for the challenge Dan. Don't know what/where this peak is but a guess is forthcoming. --["BobRynd"] ------ 2008-03-26 06:32:10 nbsp Sorry, Bob: I was yawning. You said something? --["DanAhlborn"] ------ 2008-03-26 19:12:32 nbsp I've been reconsidering the Sword Lake yoke: It's actually a really good guess. As a matter of fact, in all of the contests, I think its the closest guess mile-wise without actually being the correct guess. --["DanAhlborn"] ------ 2008-03-28 06:43:35 nbsp Using the clues provided: peak/hill 7247 --["BobRynd"] ------ 2008-03-28 19:08:06 nbsp Its niether 7247 nor 7427. --["DanAhlborn"] ------ 2008-03-31 20:20:26 nbsp But Dan the man is on it 24-7. Cheers buddy! --["BillDiehl"] ------ 2008-04-01 20:34:17 nbsp Thanks, Bill. For such a little nubbin, 7427 has an outstanding and unique view. Great little summit next to Rock Lake. --["DanAhlborn"] ------ 2008-04-07 20:02:19 nbsp It appears that this is another nice photograph taken by Dan on his hike along Spicers and to the back of the Dardanelles. The bump in question is 7305, also known as Adams Butte. It lies directly north of Lost Lake and just south of the mapped wetland along the Summit Lake-Highland Creek trail. --["TomEfraser"] ------ 2008-04-08 09:26:06 nbsp SCORE!! I'll work out the logistics of getting a pic to you. This underappreciated trail may be the quintessential BV trail if one starts at Highland Lakes. Views of Spicer are hot! From Spicer, this is the big rocky knob on the left (N) where it pinches down at Wilderness Creek. --["DanAhlborn"] ------ 2008-04-08 20:39:32 nbsp And how do you get Adam's Butte? --["DanAhlborn"] ------ 2008-04-08 20:40:54 nbsp Glad you're back online Dan. I had to use an odd name to log in, because I mis-placed my earlier password. The "automatic" email password mailer apparently does not work. Looking forward to the next photograph. Tom --["TomEfraser"] ------ 2008-04-09 15:58:55 nbsp Tom, sorry about that... will look into the password mailer code. I don't think I've tested it before... let's remember I was given this wiki platform by daviswiki.org and I hacked it up for our use here, and I never got around to fully testing everything. --["TonyZuccarino"] ------ 2008-04-09 21:41:13 nbsp Derivation of Adams Butte. BSA Troop 4 camped on old Spicers from 1938 to 1986 when dam construction forced them away. From the 1940s to 1989, Julian Adams (former BV homeowner) served as scoutmaster of the troop. I was active in the troop in the 70s. Old Spicers really "belonged" to Troop 4 and was rarely visited by other people due to the primite road access. That butte was fondly designated Adams Butte about 1/2 a century ago in Julian's honor. --["TomEfraser"] ------ 2008-04-10 06:30:01 nbsp [Round of applause!] --["DanAhlborn"] ------ 2008-04-10 07:20:20 nbsp Tom, thanks for the history - we are working on establishing prescriptive and historical use of Slick rock rd to Union/Utica/Spicers. Are gathering folks' recollections of the road use. --["SusiLewis"] ------ 2008-04-10 07:21:54 nbsp It was used by folks in the my Dad's generation, for dam regulations, hunting, fishing ie my Dad and Uncles doing the 'dam' repairs. Any chance you would fill out a questionaire for the County on this subject? Would need your email. --["SusiLewis"] ------ 2008-04-17 20:42:38 nbsp Sure Susi. I would be happy to fill out a form. Where shall I mail my email address, since I would rather not post it? BV Historical Society? --["TomEfraser"] ------ 2008-04-18 08:53:40 nbsp yes... email at the Ebbetts Pass Historical site. I will take it from there. --["SusiLewis"] ------ 2008-04-29 19:21:43 nbsp Dear Bill; I just now got the 24/7 thing. --["DanAhlborn"] ------ 2008-05-01 22:25:20 nbsp Heh, heh, Dan....so it took you a month to get the joke - at least you got it. Not all who wander are lost my good friend! --["BillDiehl"]
