Hiram Peak

Start at campground A. Attain ridge at B.
Go up the ridge on the right staying close to the edge for firmer footing.

Trailhead is at the Highland Lakes Campground (see:Folger Peak), the one on the south side above the lakes. The trail, and, eventually, a myriad of trails will attain the wide, level ridge at the base of the steep, sharp, loose, rubbly volcanic scree ridge one must follow to the summit ridge and the summit proper. On the way up, you will want to stay on or near the ridge where the footing is relatively solid. On the way down, just to the right of this ridge, you'll find the pea gravel trail from Hell coming up through the scree: Great fun on the way down; and, you'll be relieved knowing you just avoided that death slog my sticking to the ridge on the way up!
