Uploading pics is easy. It's not yet super convenient, because you have to upload one at a time.
But I will be working to change that. Big Tip: if you're curious how something on a page was created, just click Edit and browse the Edit box. You can always hit Cancel and back out. Also, the picture should be re-sized before uploading. You may not know it until you look, but that picture may be 44 x 35 inches. After re-sizing, always hit "Enter" to get the full screen view: If too small, enlarge; if too large, reduce some more. Just because you re-size it to 5 x 7 doesn't mean it won't show up on the wiki page poster-sized. (Squirrelly!)
Uploads and Thumbnails
So here are the steps:
- First, go to the page you want to add a pic to.
- Click on Edit tab above.
- Click on Images below the edit box. A new browser window will pop open.
- Click on Browse to find the file you want to upload. If you are in Windows, you can select View->Thumbnails within any folder to see previews of the photos in that folder. You can enter a more sane name for the uploaded photo...easier to remember in the following steps, you'll see why.
- Click on Upload to send the photo to Bear Valley Wiki. Then you can either preview your uploaded photo by clicking Close/Preview in the popup window or simply close the popup window anyway you want.
Now the photo is there. If you want to display the photo as is, simple click on the camera icon above the edit box (you can only see this while in Edit mode).
If you click on that camera icon, you get this:
attachment:photo.jpg ... simply plug in your photo name.
In my case, I will plug in the name of a just uploaded photo: attachment:bulldogs_in_love.jpg.
If I do that, then after I hit save, I would get the following picture show up:
OK, that's not too bad. However, that's a pretty big pic that takes up alot of the page. And with hi res cameras the picture would really swamp the page. That's why the benevolent wiki creators bestowed on us the ability to show a small thumbnail of the photo.
To show a Thumbnail on the page, instead of the photo itself, type in [[Thumbnail(image.jpg)]]
Here I do this and get:
go ahead and click on the pic to the left....
Fred and Ginger
What'd ya say? Want to add a snappy caption? OK, then edit the Thumbnail commend to something like [[Thumbnail(bulldogs_in_love.jpg, "Fred and Ginger")]]
... there are also alignment (left/right) options you can add should you desire. Let's move a pic to the right edge: [[Thumbnail(bulldogs_in_love.jpg, right, "Fred and Ginger")]] ... the text sort of keeps flowing around the pics, presumably giving the page a more natural look.
Fred and Ginger
Advanced Stuff
OK, so you have a hi res photo and you wish to show something in between the standard thumbnail and the huge pic itself.
You can do this: [[Thumbnail(IMG_0112.JPG, 320)]] (where 320 is the new width in pixels), which gives you:
Oh, and if you want to line up several photos on the left edge of the page, just add a left to each thumbnail command....
Or just leave the left out and let the photo's stack horizontally... all depends on your whim.
More Advanced Stuff
Let's say we want to add a bunch of pics, stack 'em vertically, and add text to the right of each pic.
(see the tables formatting (bottom of this window)) you can essentiall create a two column table, the left column for the pics and the second column for the text. Remember to put that double '||' at the beginning of the line, end of line, and between the pic and text fields. NO SPACES are to touch the '||' ... for example:
||[[Thumbnail(IMG_0112.JPG, 320)]]||typical snowy forest scene in BV's dead of winter||
||[[Thumbnail(IMG_0113.JPG, 320)]]||Porridge Bowl at BV Ski Resort||
||[[Thumbnail(IMG_0114.JPG, 320)]]||mountain range opposite of BV Ski Resort||
||[[Thumbnail(IMG_0115.JPG, 320)]]||more mountain views from parking lot at BV Ski Resort||
adding this below, gives me:
|
|
typical snowy forest scene in BV's dead of winter |
|
|
Porridge Bowl at BV Ski Resort |
|
|
mountain range opposite of BV Ski Resort |
|
|
