Here is a link to the Slick Rock map: [WWW]http://www.californiajeeper.com/slickroc/slickrock.PDF

I didn't have my GPS on to generate a track, but it's pretty easy to follow given the above map.

Be aware of the following:
1) this trail is double black diamond for the best of offroad vehicles... do NOT take your Landrover or 4x4 pickup down or up this trail... you won't make it through several tight spots with high boulders. A serious lift kit and big big tires are needed. Skill is recommended too.
2) If you want to mountain bike this, you could, but you'll be walking down a good mile of it at least.
3) The map and various websites fail to mention that the trail is CLOSED right after the two water crossings (at Duck Creek it seems)... twice the trail was blocked with huge boulders. I only made it past because I was on my motorcycle... I dreaded the thought of having to backtrack UP that nasty trail! Once you get around these road blocks, it's a smooth ride past Utica Reservoir (4 miles) and then back to Highway 4 (another 6-7 miles from Utica).
4) Great scenery, small waterfalls and streams along the way... the reward is worth the work here.

2008-10-19 21:20:11   susi, if you read this page... any idea why the trail was closed off as described above .. I can't imagine the look on a jeep drivers face when he realizes he as to go back up what he just came down...! —TonyZuccarino

2008-10-20 13:50:33   Right you are Tony. Modified, short wheel base, jeeps only on Slick Rock. I have MTB biked down it (and up it again) and once came across a crew of jeeps bottlenecked at a particular section. I asked what the hold up was and it was a Hummer and pals stuck on the trail. Damn Hummers! —BobRynd

2008-10-20 13:52:32   and Tony, yes, I have mountain-biked down the whole trail with only a dab or two. Though I was stifled at the section they call "the ladder", near the end(Utica). —BobRynd

2008-10-21 08:11:53   No idea why is blocked in two spots. Is it wide enough for a jeep? if not, someone is playing around with the trail. I will forward these inquiries to the FS OHV manager, and hope he knows the scoop. —SusiLewis

2008-10-21 16:04:37   I am probably not identifying it right, because these road blocks are boulders that had to have been put in place by heavy equipment... but according to the map (refer to the pdf link above), it definitely seems that I am referring to the end of FR7N17, where the dotted line of the Slick Rock trail ends up at 7N17. I barely made it through on my motorcycle... it is really well blocked. Seems safer to have that path open for emergency vehicles....? —TonyZuccarino
